Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein/ Bram Stoker’s Dracula: Classics of Horror Literature

When you ask anyone what the greatest horror novel ever written is, chances are these two books will be mentioned. I have read both – and have never been able to decide which is better. Curious to know what most of you( fellow horror fanatics!) think. Which is the superior horror classic?

  1. I absolutely enjoy Frankenstein more (though I love both). I feel Frankenstein makes more coherent sense across the board without appealing to tropes that were contemporary for the time like Stoker did with characters like Quincy or using the epistolary style–I love both these aspects but it does date it. Meanwhile Frankenstein seems far far more timeless and accurate to struggles that more people can relate to.

  2. Dracula and Frankenstein both share one horror aspect in common. Namely that the power to be back from the dead, whether it’s supernaturally in Dracula’s case or scientifically in the case of the Frankenstein monster, can have dangerous consequences for the human race.
