Cushing was offered the role of Doctor Who when William Hartnell was leaving. But he turned it down after feeling comfortable enough with having played the role in two films. That was a very respectable decision. All the same it’s interesting to imagine how Cushing would have mastered the role in the TV series.
I agree. You have to wonder what path Dr Who would have taken then. Funny you commented on this at this time…I just watched Tales from the Crypt a couple of days ago.
He was great in Tales from the Crypt… and everything else.

Peter Cushing was outstanding in all his roles. My favourite is his portrayal of Gustav Weil the religious fanatic and witch hunter in ‘Twins of Evil’
