MY 33 FAVORITE RECORDING ARTISTS #27- THE VELVET UNDERGROUND

On my countdown of My 33 Favorite Recording Artists- up to #27- The Velvet Underground. The Velvet Underground suffers a bit on the list -like #28- Creedence Clearwater Revival in the fact that their career was so brief. The Velvet Underground only released four albums- from 1967-70 { I do not count the album Squeeze as a Velvet Underground album- released in 1973 the Velvets from the Lou Reed era were gone. I have never even seen this album.}

The great Brian Eno quote about The Velvet Underground was probably the truth-

“The first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band”

    1. I would much rather see a show at a small club than at an arena – I remember seeing Leslie West and standing only a few feet away while he played some incredible guitar – most of the people there were sitting at the bar and not even paying attention – unbelievable! But I will never forget it.

      1. Sweet! Leslie West was someone I regrettably never got to see live. That must have been amazing. But I did see some great club shows over the years. One in particular that stands out for me was Warren Haynes playing for free in a bar on Miami Beach, and Mick Taylor from the Stones was in the crowd and asked if he could sit in and jam. Of course, Warren jumped at the opportunity. It was pretty awesome!
