Although not as well known as Bram Stoker’s DRACULA or Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN , THE CASTLE OF OTRANTO is considered to be the first gothic novel and a major influence on the goth subculture. In fact, the horror genre itself might not exist if not for this novel.
